The otherworldly pink color comes from specific algae living in the saltwater. This is also a National Wildlife Refuge so please stick to the marked paths and follow all posted signs during your visit.
Among all the best places to see in Puerto Rico for photography and natural beauty, the pink salt flats are in a league entirely of their own. They are the kind of pretty Puerto Rican places that make you question whether you are still on planet Earth.
The nearby Faro Los Morrillos Lighthouse is also absolutely worth a visit while you are in this area. Together, these two spots make Cabo Rojo one of the best destinations in Puerto Rico for a half-day excursion from San Juan!
